Art and Identity for the Expat

www.artacademy.ch
Lately, I've been more ambivalent than usual about my life choices. I'm thrilled and energized by the opportunity to reinvent my life – launching  a new career, learning new languages – but I'm also stressed about all the changes I've taken on and plagued by bouts of homesickness. I work through these contradictions by writing. For my friend Rosemary, the contradictions and ambivalence of expat life are embedded in her paintings.

My artwork is constantly dealing with this theme of where home is. For the longest time I painted female images that were nearly flying and at the very least had no roots and were on the move. Now I am painting more and more places that I have encountered on my life's journey. (Rosemary Rauber,

Rosemary and three other local artists are showing their work at Das Erlengut in Erlenbach on Lake Züirch, April 19–21. Doors open for the Vernissage on April 19 at 18.00, and the public is welcome to attend (there is no entry fee).

I'm looking forward to seeing expat life through Rosemary's eyes.
