A Belated Spring Cleaning

We live in a city apartment. It's not huge––we have one big closet and one tiny storage locker in the cellar––which means we just have to get rid of a bunch of stuff every once in a while. Currently, I'm trying to cope with the results of shipping far too many clothes to Zürich when we first moved here. They've got to go.

A couple of times of year we get collection bags from Texaid, a Swiss organization that collects, recycles and reuses used clothing in support of charities like Caritas Schweiz and the Swiss Red Cross. The bags are too small--clearly designed for smart shoppers who buy judiciously. My closet always seems to fill up with clothes so big or so small or so odd that I wondered why I ever bought them.

Happily, I discovered that there are drop-off containers right in my neighborhood. All I have to do is bag it up and dump it in. The instructions don't even specify that you have to use those tiny Texaid bags.

Texaid also has a handy search tool so that you can find the nearest collection point. Neat.

  1. Aw, yes. Many a donation was made to the texaid bins when we were packing up our things to move back to the States... :)

  2. Applying the one-in-one-out rule is the only way not to get too much stuff in our closets.

I'm getting ready to move... and I'm scared ;-)

  3. Now that's cool! I wish I could follow that advise too and get rid of the clothes I don't wear! Argh... It's sad when you are in between sizes too at the moment.

  8. Hi Newcomer from Columbia,
I think you mean masks for facials, right?

I don't know of a specific place to suggest for that product, but you might try stores called "Drogerie" or with the word "Bio" in the name. Not all Drogerie are "bio," however.

The Bio Paradies shop in my neighborhood carries organic cosmetics (soaps, lotions). There are lots of these kinds of shops in Zürich.

  10. Texaid is a great place to give your old clothes because they donate it to a lot of charities and help those who experience calamities.

  11. Texaid is well known in Europe and the Uk because the clothes you give are given to those in need and charities.

  12. There are lots of nice places in Europe and Switzerland is one of them. It is a good idea to have an organization like Texaid which provides an opportunity for many people who are in need.

  13. Zurich is one of the cities in Switzerland that I'd love to visit. I have heard a lot of good things about this place including its cleanliness. People are also more inclined in charity works.
